Understanding Patient Lifts & Slings

A patient lift uses a compatible sling to support a person during caregiver-assisted transfers between suitable surfaces, such as a bed and a chair. It is different from a lift recliner that helps someone rise from a seat, and from a hydraulic transfer commode chair.

What differs between lift options?

Manual hydraulic and electric models have different operating controls. Compare user capacity, lift range, base width, space around the bed and chair, and the caregiver’s ability to operate the equipment. The sling must match both the lift and the person’s requirements; slings are not automatically interchangeable.

Planning a purchase

Calmedi can help confirm the available lift, compatible sling type and size, current package price, delivery and setup. Ask the appropriate healthcare professional about individual suitability, and ensure the caregiver is trained in the selected equipment and transfer procedure.
