Braces and Support

Braces and supports are commonly used to treat numerous injuries of the musculoskeletal system. A range of specialized products is available for all body parts, including ankle, knee, elbow, wrist, neck and back. These products are commonly used for recovery from sports injuries, accidents or trauma.

Certain braces and supports can also play an important role in the emerging area of sports and fitness medicine. They can be used for prevention of injury during sports, exercise, rehabilitation and other activities.

Diagnostics

Home testing is increasing dramatically as consumers take a more active role in their own health care.

More emphasis is being placed on prevention of disease at the earliest possible stage, as well as self-care for chronic, controllable conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure.

Home diagnostic products are available for blood glucose, cholesterol, blood pressure, and body temperature, as well as many other commonly used health and wellness tests. Advances in technology and computerization have resulted in a new generation of home diagnostic products that feature significant improvements in ease-of-use and accuracy, making home testing a practical and convenient alternative.

Incontinence

Incontinence is a medical condition that affects thousands of Canadians. Unfortunately it carries with it an inappropriate social stigma. It is often misunderstood, and patients are often reluctant to discuss their concerns and requirements.

Incontinence is an area in which education and counselling can play an important role. Patients also benefit from the many convenient and comfortable incontinence products available. These products can contribute to effective management of incontinence, and to the maintenance of a normal, active lifestyle for the majority of individuals with this condition.

Mobility

Products in this category are designed to improve an individual's overall mobility and freedom of movement. As such, they can provide greater independence and a higher quality of life.

Mobility products are used by a diverse segment of the population. Users of these products include individuals recovering from accident or injury; individuals whose mobility is impaired due to aging, illness or chronic conditions; and the permanently disabled.

Products in this category range from simple mobility aids, such as canes and walkers, to high-technology items such as powered wheelchairs and sophisticated stair lifts. Product selection is dependent on several factors, and often requires specialized knowledge, both of the patient's condition and the product's capabilities. Selection varies by store; please contact your nearest Home Health Care directly for more information.

Ostomy

Advances in recent years have altered the provision of post-surgical care for ostomy patients. Through new procedures as well as advances in ostomy care product design, home care is now a reality.

Highly specialized products are available for patients who have had a colostomy, ileostomy or urostomy.

Through the proper use of these products, as well as the expert support of health care professionals, individuals who have undergone these procedures can live normal, productive lives with a greater degree of independence than ever before.

Patient Aids

For people caring for themselves or a family member at home, there are a number of home care products that can be helpful and contribute to improved care, a greater degree of independence and self-sufficiency, and overall improved quality of life.

Products are available in a range of general categories, including Aids to Daily Living (ADL), Home Helpers, Home Safety Products, Nursing Needs, and others. These products can be condition-specific (e.g. special utensils or tools for arthritis sufferers) or general, serving a variety of home care needs.

Many items in this category can also be of assistance to the elderly or mobility-impaired.

Personal Care

Within the Personal Care category, a variety of home care products are available for common problems, including sports injuries, back pain, foot care, muscular pain, and many more health concerns.

Specialized Footcare

Foot care is increasingly recognized as part of overall health and well-being for our aging population, along with the move towards increased interest in fitness and exercise.

Self-medication products to treat such ailments as warts, blisters, and foot odour are available. Products include insoles, products for athlete's foot, and grooming products.

Medical Stockings

Support hosiery products are used in compression therapy. This form of therapy is commonly used in the treatment of circulatory problems of the legs, such as phlebitis, varicose veins and a variety of other conditions that range from uncomfortable to painful.

These products can greatly improve blood flow and provide relief for many patients. They can be prescribed for the treatment of a specific condition, or recommended for prevention.

Today's lines of support hosiery are designed specifically to combine treatment effectiveness with visual appeal and fashion. Products are available to suit all individuals and lifestyles.

Wound Management

Wound management, ranging from basic first aid to surgical dressing replacement, is an important component of home care. Products include a range of items such as gauze and bandage products, specialty dressings, cleansing supplies and lubricants.

Specialty products for such complex wounds as ulcers, sores, or wounds resulting from a medical condition are also available in some Home Health Care stores.

Related items and accessories, including gloves, hygiene-specific products and implements, support the wound management line.

AADL - Alberta Aids to Daily Living

"Alberta Aids to Daily Living" or "AADL". It is a provincially funded and limited program that financially assists individuals with chronic conditions. You must have an assessment by either the hospital, local ADL office or outlying Health Units and homecare units. Most approved clients qualify for 75% assistance. Remaining qualified clients are eligible to 100% benefits depending on the income. Once your needs are assessed the products are ordered from an approved vendor. This is done at the discretion of "Client's Choice". "Clients" get to pick vendors whom they would be comfortable or familiar with or have preference to. Vendors cannot supply without prior government approval.
